Tens of thousands of words have been written about the first ten words in the Bible: “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” A simple and profound statement that has ignited a firestorm of debate and controversy. People get stuck on the “How” and “When” of creation. Story in the Stars deals specifically with the “Why” of creation. Why go to so much trouble to create such a vast universe? That’s the question that we endeavor to explore.
The answer may surprise you. In fact, the answer is you! God did it all for you, and for me. He loves us so much that He ensured a way for all inhabitants of the earth, through all of time, to see the message of Salvation and Redemption that He has painted with the stars.
The Bible is very clear when it states that God created, named and positioned all of the stars of the universe in their place. That means that the images we see in the night sky were created and designed by God. Yes, I’m speaking of the 48 constellations in the night sky. Think of it this way: Each constellation is an image—or a snapshot—into the life and ministry of the Savior, Jesus. From the virgin birth in Virgo, to the returning conquering King in Leo, His entire life is depicted in the heavens.
In ancient times, images were often used to relay a story. The simplest of pictures could relay the most profound of messages. They say a picture is worth thousand words, literally. Whenever an ancient cave is found, the inside is almost always the same. Seldom is writing found on the walls, but almost always, the walls are filled with images in sequence conveying an ancient tale. That’s exactly what God has done with the constellations.
They are arranged and laid out in a very specific way—a way that tells us the greatest story ever to be told. In Luke 21:25 Jesus says, “There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars.” Signs are meant to point us towards something. The signs in the night sky were meant to point us to Jesus. God created the universe with and for a purpose. He created it for you, because God loves you on purpose!
